Materials Camp is a great way to learn more about an important area of science and engineering with rewarding career paths. The camp runs from July 6–10, 9 AM to 4 PM, at Lehigh University’s Department of Materials Science and Engineering. Sixteen selected applicants will participate in hands-on lab experiments, listen to engaging presentations, and network with professors and industry professionals. The camp is entirely free, and lunch is provided daily for those selected to attend. For Berks County students, transportation is provided to Lehigh University from a centralized Berks County location; for all other students, free parking is provided.
ASM International is a non-profit professional society with the mission to benefit the materials community by providing scientific, engineering, and technical knowledge and professional development. The goal of the ASM Materials Education Foundation, a part of ASM International, is to excite young people in materials science and engineering.
Materials Science and Engineering is a subset of engineering focused on understanding the materials around us, how they are made, and how to further develop existing or new materials.

July 13–17, 2026 · Lehigh University, Whitaker Lab, Bethlehem, PA
ACT 48 credits are available – details provided to applicants.
The camp is a one-week workshop giving examples of low-cost and no-cost simple labs and experiments using everyday materials that can be integrated into existing lesson plans. These lessons allow for exposure of entire classrooms to the principles of Materials Science and Engineering. This camp is free of cost and includes lunches and supplies, although transportation costs are the responsibility of the attendees. This is a full-day (8:00 AM to 5:00 PM), 5-day-long workshop. Primary faculty are two experienced high school “Master Teachers” who have taught materials science courses for many years and helped develop this innovative approach to hands-on learning of applied science principles. Our goal is to engage and excite young people in science and math.
